Harper John - an original blues rocker with the BLACKSHEEP in the steamy London scene of 1960s, before graduating and making a name for himself in Bermuda, the Americas and Asia. He has pioneered his original songs and ground-breaking books around the world. Not only a best-selling author in Asia but a first prize winning songwriter as well.  His wry and punchy "Bitter-Bitta" and "Dedma" styles honed in the solitude of the rain forest make him totally unique. He has currently just returned from California for Canadian gigs this summer …  and is also working on a new book.

HE IS NOW TAKING PERFORMANCE & LITERARY BOOKINGS  FOR 2008 and 2009.

Armed with a vintage classical left-handed guitar and a clutch of oddball harps, Harper John can't help but letting the World know what it's all about.

Wrote his first blues song "When I was a young man" (on the current "BEATING THE BLUES" offering as it happens) when he was fourteen - but didn't even know it was blues 'cos he was too young to know anything of value.

Harper John comes complete with his own P A system, if needed.

    OTHER DIGGING:

Harper John was there at - Ulilang Bundok , Sitio Dayap, Barangay Tanagan, Calatagan, Batangas, Philippines during archaeological excavation at the site during 1995-6. This is a secondary earthenware vessel burial site.  A total of 66 secondary human burials were found, and relics included decorated earthenware fragments, glass beads and the shells of edible marine and brackish creatures.  Some of the pottery burial vessels were decorated with polished stone adzes (trapezoidal cross-section design.) Ulilang Bundok is significant to Philippine archaeology and especially to Calatagan, Batangas, for it is much earlier than the other sites which have been reported. And dig this; the site is dated to the Pre-porcelain period. No Kid!

The locals told Harper that a white lady haunts the site.

        And soccer too...

Harper has played all his life and is also a sucessful qualified coach ...   even managed to coach a team to a national championship.

    Meteor in Gretskyland:

The song "Frozen Pond in Paradise" by Harper John has taken on brand new skates. It started out as an entry in the CBC Ice Hockey Anthem Song Contest ...and can be heard @

In the contest the song was billed as "a slapshot on a frozen pond of outerworldly Miltonian dreams."  So what's a metaphysical vision of poet John Milton to do with a meteor landing in Gretskyland you may well ask?  Well, for starters, Milton was a bit of a Meteor buff. In Paradise Lost, for example, the Imperial Ensign "shone like a meteor streaming to the wind"

But there's more, much more, coded into the words of Harper's song:

Like a smooth stone skimming on the ice,

On a frozen pond down in Paradise.

Slap my puck , slap it twice,

Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot my ice.

    Like a Gretsky, on a jet-ski,

    So quick, so fast.

Shoot that puck, shoot it fast,

Score first baby , score last.

Did you see the picture of the first sighting of the meteor fragments ...  a "smooth stone" resting on a frozen pond "in the picturesque valley" near paradise Lloydminster? That wonderful snapshot of student Ellen Milley gazing in awe at the heaven sent  "puck" ... Shoot that puck, shoot it fast, Score first baby ....

She and meteorite expert Alan Hildebrand  had at first stumbled on an object that turned out to be a glittering "leaf", the Imperial Ensign of the Toronto team no less, shining "like a meteor streaming to the wind"  as Milton would have it.

The wayward cosmic treasure belongs to rancher Ian Mitchell, owner of the pond, but where was he when the sacred rock landed? At an ice hockey game, of course!
